Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth Colored Fillings | Flower Mound TXAt Hillcrest Dental, our patients have concerns about the health of their smile and want to keep their natural teeth in comfortable working order. At the same time, they want to make sure their smiles look great, too.

Since beautiful smiles are so valued, Dr. Namrata Shah approaches each treatment with the longevity and function of your smile in mind while also providing esthetic options, whenever possible. Even dental restorations as common as fillings can be beautiful.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Until just a few decades ago, the standard for fillings was dark metal amalgam. Today, you will be happy to know that effective restorative options do not leave a permanent dark mark on your smile. At Hillcrest Dental, we offer tooth-colored fillings to our patients. Your filling will match your tooth color so closely that it will be undetectable when you smile and laugh.

Decay occurs when bacteria create an acidic environment in your mouth. Acid softens the protective enamel that covers your teeth and eats away at it. This is called a cavity, caries, or decay. We generally diagnose dental decay through a visual exam in conjunction with dental x-rays.

Once Dr. Shah determines that decay exists, she will recommend a restoration. In most cases, when caught early enough, a filling will get the job done. If decay is significant, it may place your tooth at risk for fracture and require a dental crown.

Fillings and Cosmetic Dentistry | The Colony TXHow Tooth-Colored Fillings Work

Dr. Shah will remove all signs of decay, clean the area to remove bacteria, and prepare the surface of your tooth to bond with composite resin, a material made of BPA-free plastic and microscopic glass particles. Composite resin comes in a wide variety of shades, and Dr. Shah will choose one that matches your enamel.

She will then apply the composite in layers, hardening each layer with a special curing light. When she places the final layer, she will polish and shape your filling to look just like your tooth.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding uses the same composite material we use for fillings. Because it is versatile, Dr. Shah can make small repairs to your teeth such as filling in chips and small gaps. She can also use bonding to reshape a tooth for cosmetic reasons.

Both fillings and bonding are durable and long lasting with the proper professional and home dental care routines.
